Canva, one of the world’s leading graphic design platforms, is facing a major global outage that has disrupted access for millions of users. The platform’s status page confirms “significantly increased error rates” affecting almost every feature. As of 19:16 AEDT (02:46 IST), Canva remains largely unavailable with no confirmed timeline for full recovery.
Widespread Impact Across the Globe
The outage, reportedly caused by an Amazon Web Services (AWS) failure, has severely affected users from India to the United States. This disruption has interrupted the work of marketers, designers, educators, and businesses relying on Canva for daily operations.
The issue began escalating around 18:14 AEDT (03:44 IST) when Canva officially declared a “Major Outage.” Core functions including login, editing, saving, downloading, and sharing have all been impacted.
Canva’s mobile apps (iOS and Android), desktop versions (macOS and Windows), and third-party integrations like Google Classroom and Moodle are also down. Even advanced tools such as Canva AI Connector, Apps SDK, and billing systems have stopped working, leaving users unable to access their projects or contact support.
User Reports and Global Reactions
According to DownDetector, more than 15,000 users have reported problems in the past few hours. About 20% of users cited server connection issues, while 17% reported failures in the app.
In India, where Canva plays a major role in creating festive graphics and campaigns, users expressed frustration on X (formerly Twitter). One user posted,
“Canva is down completely, both app and web versions. Can’t log in.”
Meanwhile, a user from the Philippines wrote,
“Ini-report ng netizens na hindi nila ma-access ang Canva ngayong Lunes.”

AWS Identified as the Core Issue
The disruption appears linked to AWS’s US-EAST-1 region, where elevated error rates and latency were detected around 03:11 AM ET (12:41 IST).
Since Canva relies heavily on AWS for cloud infrastructure, the outage has had a particularly severe impact on its 220 million monthly active users. The company stated on its status page,
“Our team is actively investigating and working to restore full access as quickly as possible.”
However, this message has remained unchanged since the initial alert.
Social Media Reactions
On social media, the hashtag #CanvaDown is trending globally as users share memes and vent frustration about stalled projects. One U.S. marketer posted,
“Was supposed to launch promo campaigns… Canva down, chaos!”
An Indian agency head added,
“@canva what is happening? It is a critical day!”
Freelancers and small businesses have been especially hard hit, with many reporting significant productivity losses.
